Something to Cheer About

How time flies…indeed..!

Yes..I am going back to work in another week’s time…and yeasterday…marked another milestones of Kayden’s life..

He is six-month-old.

His major achievements so far… :

(1) The last he weighed was about 7.8kg and 71cm or 28″ in length
(2) He loves to talk..n very vocal indeed..well not exactly..though..maybe
more of babble.., I guess I have been talking to him since his first cry
do works..and I believed he has inherited my “talkative” genes
(just like me I believed his teacher will “feedback” to me about his
“eloquent” nature when he entered kindergarten..)
(3) He is now on solid food already..although not his main staples yet but he
seems to love all the new flavours, which he has been introduced to
(4) He loves to count since his first cry…yes…always show us his lil fingers
…one, two, three, four, five..
(5) He loves water…especially bathing time…
(6) He rolls over..and able to sit up-right in an infant seat
(7) He loves to play n laugh alot..n loves companies..
(8) He looks for my chow x 2 for comfort..haha..
(9) He likes cold stuff..but flutters his eyelids uncontrollably when he first
touches cold stuff

Aiyoh..there is so much more.. I guess too many to name them…but some how I realised boys tend to develop at a slower pace than girls.haha..this reminds me of the boys in our secondary school days who reached puberty at a slower pace than the girls..then suddenly when they reached secomdary 3 or 4, they became taller than us!

I am so proud to see how fast he has grown, and thinking back just 6 mths ago….he was a newly borned tiny lil baby measuring just 47cm…n weighing only 2.9kg. Now I truly understand what my gynae meant when he told me..it’s alright for my foetus to be small..so long as he is healthy (yes indeed…that’s what most parents wished for their children). Afterall, given my body built my foetus shouldn’t be too big..otherwise I will end up c-sectioning n not natural birth. He added that I can always “beefed him up” after he is “out of the pouch”. Hahaha…given his years of experience..he is so right and I shouldn’t have doubted his bold statement.

Now…Kayden is as grown up as Franchesska, who is turning 2 this October, but he can’t beat the 1-year-old no-horse-run, Dorothy!
All thanks to breastfeeding, and I am so glad I have heeded Jasmine bf-ing guru’s advices and stuck on to it, although people around me have persuaded me to give up saying that it is troublesome, obviously these people have never breastfeed before or did not perservere. Of cos, everything has its pros n cons..but considering..the benefits far outweighed the cons…..so so much more….!
Mothers-to-be out there..go breastfeeding.. it’s FREE..and a God’s gift to mankind ..haha!

I am really glad that I took that extra 2 months of leave to look after him..nothing beats looking after ur own child all by urself than anyone else…not even ur own parents. The sense of satisfaction is really undescribable…..well..now that I am going back to work..and the best choice for now is to leave him at the infant care and *keeping my fingers crossed* that he will be in good hands.

If u happened to chance upon this blog entry and don’t get a clue as to what I am writing about, then you must have missed my previous entry, you might want to have a read at this post.

Okay, I know it has been sometime since my las entry. Sorry for the delay and as what Jasmine has said very pek chek ah…cos’ no follow-up on the second opinion thingy.

After our episode with the consultant @ KK and having heard from my GP on her personal experience with her son’s UTI episode, and we do not want to see lil’ Kayden having to take the yucky antibiotic for the next 3 mths and have diarrhea every other day…and then napy rashes like for as long as he is on this med. before he goes back for a REVIEW (really look look see see only hor…ok and some questions..?) again. So we didn’t want to waste any time and subject him to too much antibiotic…we decided to seek for a 2nd opinion from another paed (@ Mt A) as recommended by my GP. The one which Kayden was assigned to (@ birth) ..its earliest appointment available is in July! O.M.G….what’s the diff.

So about 2 weeks ago, we brought Kayden to the this neonate specialist. Well…I must say he was very diplomatic with his answer and didn’t want to offend any consultant’s practice persay…so he suggested to us to skip the DMSA procedure and conduct the MCU procedure. In short, in this instance the former’s purpose is to find out if there is any scarring to the kidneys..as a result of the UTI, then if there is then the consultant will go on and order the MCU procedure. As for the latter, its purpose is to find out if there is any reflux of the urine in the urinary system, which is one of the possible causes for UTIs.  Well, these docs has different school of thoughts and practice lah…so the paed felt that it is most important to find out the root cause of the UTI and get it treated a.s.a.p, so he suggested that Kayden undergoes the MCU procedure, which we felt that that is a more appropriate way, BUT its is an invasive procedure. Well..having weighing all the pros n cons, we have to let him give it a go…and get a piece of mind.

p.s : I must say there is no right or wrong in each of the docs’ clinical practice, it is just that we want to find the root cause of the problem or rather eliminate any possible causes of the problem, soonest possible. I hate to see lil’ Kayden suffering ..

Anyway, on the same week and on the fateful Saturday, early early morning we brought Kayden for the MCU procedure. He needs to fast for 3 hrs (b4 the procedure) and while waiting for his turn at the x-ray diagnostic dept. one nice Sister came by and passed me a syringe of oral sedative. What!!! I need to put my son to sleep …????!!!! So that they can conduct the procedure on him without much resistant from him…since it is invasive…

Wah say it really pains me to force the sedative down his throat….as he cries …(it reeks of alcohol…)..and with stares from people around me…(but seriously I couldn’t be bother or care). Shortly after 5 minutes, with some struggling and crying…he fell asleep..soundly…and I handed him over to the Sister..and my heart sank. Call me an emotional freak…but it really pains me and tears are rolling down my cheeks when I had to force him drink the sedative and then struggling to sleep…At that moment I felt like a wicked mother poisoning my son…(what an imagination!). I am glad he woke up after the procedure…for milk..and then was drowsy the whole day…..

Ok so..we got like 1 1/2 hr of time…to wait for the result, so to kill our time we went for our breakfast and tour a bit of the hospital ..actually is to look for the nursing room lah…The moment we got the x-ray result, we headed back to the paed’s clinic and await for the final judgement. Phew….we were so glad to hear that his MCU result was negative…no reflux was observed…

Well …yeah..we are really happy to hear that one possible cause has been eliminated….but then what is the cause of his UTI??? Especially when it was coupled with high fever and convulsion??? Or isit just a one-off incident??? Now…there are more mind-boggling questions…I am still searching for an answer….or should I just let it be and sweep the matter under the carpet…and hoping that he will be fine from now on????? Shoudl we go back to KK and see what the consultant has to say????

We are keeping our fingers crossed….

Kayden's Full Month Celebration.."Thank You" Card

Kayden's Full Month Celebration.."Thank You" Card

I must confess..this is another retrospect blog..cos it’s way passed Kayden’s full month. He is almost into his 2nd month…

Kayden celebrated his Full Month on 17th Jan 2009 (Sat), a few days earlier; supposedly it should be on 19th/20th Jan 2009.

As part of the Full Month celebration﹐arrangement has been made a day before to shave off his newborn hair. The purpose of this ceremony signifies 出人頭地 and a brand new start. Granduncle has the honour of shaving his hair. By right, besides the hair the eyebrows needs to be shaved off too, but by left…his mummy (so is Kelvin and my in-laws), urs truly, is very reluctant to allow that to happen. But my mum insisted that is a MUST thing..

U can say it was the first painful decision I had to make for him, somehow I felt rather guilty. But on the other hand, he is “balding”..patches of hair here n there…so might as well shave it off and let the new hair grow again.

He was really struggling..initially…but…see the subsequent photos..soon..he has succumbed to reality…and…(scroll down)

There ..his newborn hair…so “sayang”…so as not to waste it…I think most probably, I am going to make them into his first 胎毛筆!

My New Look...Cute..?

This is his new look from now on….BOTAK!

On the day of the celebration itself, my mum gave Kayden a gold anklet and wear it on for him, before offering prayers to our ancestors.

So much so for the ritual, in the evening we headed to Mangrove Cafe @ The Keppel Club for the buffet dinner.

Before we unanimously decide on the place to hold the celebration, there were ideas of having 3 separate celebrations..which Kelvin and I are totally against the idea..it’s such a hassel! The baby will be so stressed and so am I.
Finally, we decided that the club will be a good place to hold the celebration, cos it’s spacious enough and great seaview with the gentle breeze, the place where we are going to hold the buffet has a kitchen and so no worries no insufficient supply of food (unlike if u cater from a caterer..u finished the food and that’s it! ); the kitchen will replenish once the food is running low..so why not? BUT the only draw back…its a bit out of the way…not accessible. And so…the celebration was decided to be held at The Keppel Club.

Mistake No. 1 :
I just realised one thing…I BROUGHT MY CAMERA but I have forgotten to take photos of my guests..who had attended the function!!!!! Arggghh…..I am sooooo sorry…

Mistake No. 2:
I also brought along the guest book which I have made for the occasion….but again…I HAVE FORGOTTEN all about it….

The guest book which I have made for Kayden's Full Month Celebration..But I have forgotten to use it...shucks!

I am so overwhelmed by the whole affair…busy with welcoming guests…and nitty gritty stuff…I have forgotten the above…..argghh….

Mistake No. 3:
This is the cake favour which we had ordered for our guests. Before I remembered to take a photo of the full set of favour…the ang gu kuehs, glutinous rice and red eggs were gone!…

I must say I am very particular about choosing cake for my guests…and so happened that I was not in the mood to go on searching..perhaps I am too tired and so I just chose this particular cake house when I came across its brochure in the anten-natal class goodies pack. To our surprise, it tasted much better than Pine’s Garden, which we had initially intended to order from. Heng..ah…

The cake favour for the guests

Besides, being cheaper than Pine Garden’s, it also throw in a “Thank U” card with Kayden’s photo on it! On top of that, they gave us a discount too! I must say their service was prompt and good.

I must say the chocolate almond cake taste much better than what I had expected. Not too sweet..and they don’t stinge on the chocolate..(I mean for the price that we are paying).

I must say it was nice that the whole celebration ended on a right note, everything was smooth sailing…and all thanks to my father-in-law who has helped to make arrangements for the buffet dinner.

We would also like to thank all the guests who has set aside their precious Sat nite just to attend Kayden’s Full month celebration! Thank U very much for the gifts and well wishes too.

The following was the favour which I had chosen and ordered for my colleagues…I guess they are sick of the same old Bengawan Solo voucher..and the traditional cakes (with ang gu kuehs and red eggs), so I have decided to get something different for them, while keeping some of the tradition. Cake and eggs still there…but its chocolate eggs wrapped in gold and silver foil and small cake  from Swee Secrets, which they can munch it during tea break..and finish it up, not too big…Best of all they get to keep the lil bear, as a momento..after the food is gone.

I like the chocolate macademia nuts cake from Sweet Secret..it is rich and flavoursome!..By the way, I love cakes..be it baking or eating..them.

6 Dec 2008
Saturday, 11:15 AM

Woke up early to get ourselves ready for the fortnightly gynae check-up and had a hearty breakfast at Paragon’s Coffee Beans & Tea Leaves .

Thought we were late for our appointment…but aiyoh….we were so wrong…today the clinic is reallllll….packed with preggies! ”Mad house” for the nurse & clinic assistant.

Had the routine check done by the staff nurse and this time round…my BP is a bit low and lost some weight….funny and I really dunoe..why.
I have been eating normally, and more…but…what happened…beats…me…? Maybe all these have ben fully absorbed by our Lil’ friend. Kelvin was asking me…then Lil’ One…will not gained any weight lor…which I doubt so….I told him we’ll know…after we hav seen Dr Ong.

Well we waited for almost an hour before its our turn…never mind..since its a Saturday.
Dr Ong also noticed the reduced in my weight and was a bit concern and thought I had been having my reflux…and vomiting.
Yes..I have been experiencing..reflux…but I am still doing fine. Its a second nature to me…now…and I am used to it..and good at curbing it already (most of the time it’s Master Fresh Milk to the rescue! ahahahah…how I wish they will offer me a loyal membership ..for never had I consumed so much fresh milk in my life!).  Anyway, my guess is that Lil’ One has been tapping on my reserves fats..hahaha….n the food that I have ate.

Worrying that Lil’ One is not getting enough nutrients….Dr Ong went on to do the ultrasound scan. Our favourite part of the whole check-up.
Glad that things are looking fine…and his heartbeat is beating normally, and growth is on track.
He is now weighing about 2.7 kg and we even saw his very chubby cheeks! Boy…we are so glad that his adipose tissues are building up nicely…I hope..he can reach 3 kg before he comes on to meet everyone.

According to Dr Ong, Lil’ One is engaged already..and all set to come on…and Dr Ong..still jokingly asked me..am I ready for Lil’ One’s arrival…and I told him…ehhhh…..he said U got to tell urself…”I am ready fo him”….hahahah….he is so busy and yet he has got the time to joke…o.m.g. Anyway, he gave me an admission letter for standby and at the back of the letter, there are some pointers  and refresher notes for parents….how thoughtful of him.   :o )

Next visit, 15 Dec 2008. Hope we would be be able to see him again at his clinic and note at the delivery suite…cos…I really hope that Lil’ One will not arrive so soon, hopefully until 3 kg bah.

Lil’ One here’s a message to u, please let mummy complete all my work first before coming out to meet all of us ok?

Lil’ Eva

Heh heh…I know I know…this blog is supposed to be meant for updating the progress of my pregnancy and our Lil’ Prince..but sorry I can’t help but to write this update here..since most of u now visit this site. Anyway, our Lil’ Prince was involved too mah…hehehe..the only thing is that he is still in my tummy…

As promised..here’s an update on Lil’ Eva. She’s back!!!! I am so happy and looking forward to her return when I 1st heard she is coming back with her mummy. It’s been so long…about 2 years since we last saw her…

So we had a date with her at The Dragon Phoenix Restaurant, located at Admiral Hill Club (if I didn’t get it wrongly), to feast on dim sum.
Well, my brother is supposed to arrange the necessary, but I didn’t know..he was so ’smart’…(helloooo???!!!! It’s a public holiday leh)..that he didn’t make any reservation at all….unbelievable?! o.m.g! So the elderly, the pregnant woman (needless to say… that’s me) and the Lil’ ones..have to wait with our hungry tummies lor…..I purposely didn’t want to eat my breakfast cos thinking that we are going to eat at 11 am and also I didn’t want to overeat, so eventually I only had a glass of milk. I was so wrong…

Haha…so while waiting, our Lil’ Eva was in action…already…running around freely and playing with other kids…oh man she really has lots of energy! F.y.i, usually after a dose of sugar-loaded food/drink she will be on adrenaline rush! I wonder what did her mummy gave her before she met up with us…? After waiting for about 1/2 hour (my brother was lucky..otherwise..I am really going to order lots of food…since he is going to foot the bill!) it was finally our turn.

The following is what we had order :

I think the food is so-so only, the service and ambience is definitely not what I had expected. Hahha…but I would considered it affordable cos’ it cost us ~$160 for 7 pax. If you ask me, personally I will not visit the place again. Unless u want a dim sum quick-fix lah..and u so happened to be staying around the area.

Conclusion :
It is once again confirmed that my brother has an acquired or rather ‘unique’ taste for food, cos the food were not as gd as what he claimsto be..so disappointing and he is a poor planner.

Ok, back to our Lil’ Eva, she is so adorable and has grown so much and definitely full of facial expressions. At such an age (1+). She is also a smart and quick learner, you just need to teach her once she can do exactly the same action n sound effect as u. Not forgetting her flair for talking..hahah…n language skills. You need to tell her once and there she goes pronouncing it zhun x 2! Oh by the way, she only speaks French and a lilttle English and Mandarin, and most of the time dunoe what is she mumbling at. The following are shots taken at the restaurant and subsequently my mum’s place.

Back at my mum’s place, she was fast asleep…but woke up soon when she heard noises again…she’s back in action again! And again she was loaded with ’sugar food’, this time round her fav. fruit – seedless grapes! While eating her grapes, we made her try on the new dresses which I had bought for her from my usual Japanese site.

For a moment we thought we can steal some rest and catch up with my cousin, while Lil’ Eva sits there attentively watching cartoon. Hahhaa…we were so wrong man…soon enough she walked over to the fulll height windows and kept staring out while mumbling something ..and even asked Kelvin along with her. At first not knowing what she wants, cos she just sat there and kept staring at something…and she is those obedient type who doesn’t cry or demand for the things she wants, it was a while later then Kelvin realized that she is ‘eyeing’ the playground..hahaha

The moment she knew her message code has been deciphered, she ran to the door and hand-signalled to Kelvin and said : ” Common’…! Common’…!” asking him to bring her down to the playground and so off we went to the playground.

She had whale of a time there…running around, climbing up and down and enjoying her slides…all on her own..without our help. She will climb higher n higher with much enjoyment and challenge, and the best part..my cousin is not in the least bit worried about her at all…and she told us that Lil’ Eva has been ‘trained’ at the infant/childcare centre to be independent. I like that…

After completing her rounds at the playground, she went over to the fitness station…o.m.g trying out on the what-seems-to-her-a-slide…(actually its the platform for adults to do sit-ups lah)..and the inclination of the platform was really steep…wah biangz…and she happily “slide” down the thing…I wonder if she felt the pain in her bums? Just when we wanted to call it a day, she spotted the pull-up bars…hahaha…so she proceeded to that station lor….of course with her mummy’s help. :o ) This is what happens when we let her have too many sugar-loaded stuff. She never fails too express her energy after her “energy food”.

Back at my mum’s place…(yesh finally…!) She gulped down some water…and then…started running round n round again…and playing “peek-a-boo” with us. Oh…the most infuriating part…comes when she went to my mum’s bed and started jumping on it…then she asked Kelvin to sit beside her…but she didn’t ask me.. :o ( So I purposely go and sit on the bed too….guess what? she came over and pushed me off the bed…! Not believing what she has done..I asked my sis to test her again….true enough she gave my sis the same treatment..hahaha…

Conclusion :
As what my cousin has forewarned us…she only likes to play with boys/young men…yesh…not even old ones…k!

Even when she was about to leave my mum’s place, she even asked Kelvin to wear her shoes for her..and expects Kelvin to go home with her…hahah…It was until her mummy told her that Kelvin wants to “do-do” liao..(I dunoe the exact spelling in French..I think it is supposed to be pronounced asdormir’, and it is supposed to mean ’sleep’ in French..I think..and u know lah…baby talk in short would means “do-do”), then only she let the matter rest but with a pout lips…so cute…

In this particular video, the moment she hears ‘Twinkle twinkle little star (Tamil version)’ she will starts to shake her head violently and dance to the rhythm of it.

In this video, she was feeling cheeky..and gave us that look..and began her funny facial expressions Part II!

Eva and her pte ltd French..she has yet to speak full sentences clearly…(only mumbles)…but understands it when her ‘mamoo’ or papa speaks to her in French.

This is my eyes, nose n mouth…

UPDATES ! UPDATES! UPDATES!

Ater much urging and request from friends and relatives, I have finally managed to get together some pictures of myself or rather my tummy…hhehehe…

Here’s just two precious one…the 1st taken i think while Lil’ One is just 5 weeks old in my tummy, the 2nd is the most latest..taken just awhile ago. Currently, our Lil’ Prince is about 26 weeks n 1 day old.

Hmm…still looking ’small’ for a ‘6 monthner’…a lot of people have commented..and only until now..then they knew that I am pregnant and came up front to congratulate me! Hahaha….maybe I can consider being a magician..? Well, I am not really bothered by that…so long as our Lil’ Prince is growing well and healthy..that is what matter most to me or rather to us ! :o )

Besides having to cope with the slowly growing tummy, I have been really busy with my new job assignments. Biangz…aye..thought the major reshuffling of duties in the office would do me some good..since I don’t have to do field work anymore…my life will be more relaxed doing desk-bound work..I was so wrong! I was more stressful for me…cos of the nature of those duties..it became more demanding on me…WORST Still…now plus the new working scheme that was offered to us by our HR…most of our workload increased so as to ‘justify’ for the $$$ they are paying us (mind u we are not getting much ok…so only a few cents diff. while so…got short change! I am luckier…but not much either!) ….this whole re-structuring is reallll crappy and disappointing…! I am really tempted to just quit after my maternity leave and stay at home to look after our Lil’ Prince whole-heartedly…Ok enough of lamenting….hehehe life still have to go on…I just hope for the better…if not just ‘change ship’ lor…what’s the big deal?? Right???

Buy, buy …and buy…but clueless…cos dunoe..what else we will need to buy for our Lil’ Prince..I mean his daily necessities..I had prepared a list of ‘what to buy’ items..but somehow..I can’t remember where I have placed it…forgetful…typical pregnancy traits..haha. As I am too lazy to draft the list again…so I just have to make more trips to Kiddy Palace, Mothercare and supermarkets more often..so as to trigger my memory..lor.

Ok…the most ‘disturbing’ n ‘mind-boggling’ matter now…on hand…is who is going to take care of our Lil’ Prince after my maternity leave? We or rather more of I have been thinking about this matter since the day I am pregnant. Easy-peasy…some might have said…but says who..? I dun have the luxury of parents or in-laws looking after him…cos all of them are working…shucks..so what’s next?

A few options came to my mind, in order of preference, nanny (I knew of one trusted one). infant care, those ‘come-to-my-house’ nanny and a domestic helper. Due to the circumstances that I am in now, and I will not want to elaborate further…the 1st option is out! cos, that nanny is staying too far away from us..and it would be a chore to fetch Lil’ one to n fro every morning…alternatively, we can’t leave him there from Mon to Fri..either and only comes home during the weekend..we can’t bear to do that..and my in-laws are not in favour of that! Domestic helper is the last thing on my…no matter how gd they are…I just simply can’t trust them…pardon me…but..I have no prejudice against them…and I know there are some gd helpers out there…who are dedicated to their work n the families they are working for..but not everyone is that lucky. Just imagine…being a 1st time parent, already having to cope and worry for the Lil’ one…and there u are having a new dosmetic helper…n having to take care of her..train her …n worst off…social problem…alamak I dun want to go any further! So domestic helpers…option, out! I am now left with the ‘come-to-my-house’ nanny and infant care lor…each has their own set of pros n cons…I just have to weigh them assertively…lor and see which one best suits us…HEADACHE ahhh….

Enough of all the lamentings…I am hoping to post more pics..next week of myself with my lil’ cutie pie – Eva who is back in town with her mummy (my paternal cousin). Eva has grown so much….the last I saw her in Singapore was when she is about 9 mths old…and now she is going to be 2 already..! How time flies…I can’t wait to see her..next week :o )

Just a couple of days back when I heard the news about the baby bonus thingy…I was rattling and lamenting away….and how frustrating it was for me…to may have missed the baby bonus

….Wow…low-n-behold…, yesterday while watching the 9 pm news on Channel U…o.m.g..I couldn’t believed my own ears man…! I was in a moment of shock and asked my sister : “Did u hear what I just heard?” …The news announced that the M & P bonus will be backdated to 17th August 2008 (that’s the day the Government announced the good news at the National Day Rally) instead of the initial date – 1st Jan 2009!!!!!…..I asked myself…”Did miracle just happened?”.

I was really in utter shock…cos if you have read my previous post…I have mentioned already …..unless a miracle happens….otherwise it is not possible for us to enjoy the baby bonus….wow….amazing…

I really pitied our Lil’ One….cos eversince I heard the news….I was so down..and every now then I will start telling him…”You got to be cooperative ok….come out only in Jan 2009…and not late Dec..ok..?” I bet he must be using his two index fingers to shut off his two ears…man…and says (if he can lah..) : “Mummy will u just stop complaining…I got ur message…said once is enough…”  Just when mummy’s lamenting is not enough…daddy joined in the crowd….too…hahaha….poor Lil’ One….
I am very certained that he is even more relieved to hear the news than anyone one of us…can be man….! Sorry Lil’ One….

Well…miracle or not….I really dunoe…but I do know for certain…that…alot of pregnant mummies…whom are affected by this baby bonus thingy…have written in to protest…(at least that’s what I read from the Channelnewsasia.com…how true I am not sure.) ..hahaa…maybe in a way that is a miracle bah…

Well…we are not the only happy people …to hear the news…I understand that at least 5 of my other colleagues whom are delivering in Oct, Nov & Dec are really glad to hear this piece of gd news…cos they thought they may have missed the boat. Good for them too…..
